DIRECTOR OF UNDERWRITING POSITION

MVYRADIO is an independent, nonprofit, public radio music station located on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, covering Cape Cod and the Islands.  The Director of Underwriting oversees the station’s program of business sponsorship.  Candidates are should have at least 3 to 5 years of sales experience, sales management experience, and preferably radio sales experience.

Job Description:

Manage a personal portfolio of underwriting clients and participate in all aspects of underwriting sales. Work with the underwriting staff to reach and hopefully exceed annual revenue goals by renewing existing contracts, and developing corporate sales through prospecting, generating qualified leads, and maintaining client relationships.

This position oversees all full-time and part-time Underwriting Reps, providing goals, direction, support and feedback.  Full time employees have a formal yearly review, conducted by their supervisor.

Oversee the Traffic Director and their assigned duties, including any other non-traffic tasks as designated by the Executive Director. In-person weekly meetings and annual review are suggested along with coordinating training and systems with traffic system vendor.  Consult and coordinate with Traffic Director to create, adjust and implement protocols for entering orders, sponsorship, traffic, and production requests.

Establish underwriting packages and set rates, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations and CPB & NPR affiliate requirements.

Create/update Media Kit and all client facing materials with information from listener surveys, ratings, qualitative and streaming statistics.

Identifying new opportunities for corporate underwriting such as online and event sponsorship.

Coordinating all Underwriting and client-related aspects of new and existing events, including Night Out For Nonprofits and Summer Concert Series

Maintain and expand existing Trade accounts.

Directing regular Account Executive meetings.

Attend weekly MVYRADIO staff meeting, in person or on Zoom.

Travel for client and company meetings. Be on-site at MVYRADIO offices in West Tisbury at least once a week and for all major station events.

Successfully recruiting, training and development of underwriting sales staff when positions open. Management will also interview potential candidates.

Working closely with other departments to coordinate giveaways and other marketing materials.

Consult and coordinate with Development Director on appropriate joint efforts in Major Gifts, sponsorships and grants.

Creating and maintaining a client list with all necessary information.

Maintaining a positive, lasting relationship with all sponsors, staff and community at large.

You may be asked to participate in certain Board Committee activities, including the Equity and Inclusion Action Group to help oversee Business Diversity Initiative program and process.

Completing other duties that may be assigned to you.
