POSITION OBJECTIVEWATD-FM: “The South Shore’s Radio Station” has an opening for a part-time on-air host. We are looking for someone passionate about local radio, adult-contemporary music, and current events to be our next afternoon show host. Must have the ability to prepare thoughtful, interesting talk ups and present them in a unique and interesting manner with energy and confidence. Must have the ability to build an audience by connecting on a personal level with listeners/users and generating loyalty. Candidate must possess exceptional writing skills while promoting the program and radio station via social media.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, prepare, produce, and deliver content for a daily personality/music show in an entertaining and professional manner weekday afternoons from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Delivers on-air traffic reports four times an hour.
  • Monitors and answers the WATD phone and text line.  
  • Can creatively sell the radio station, its music, artists, promotions, and programming.
  • Social media savvy across multiple platforms and the ability to multi-task.
  • Responsible for hosting remote broadcasts (possibly weekends) for additional compensation as needed in cooperation with the sales department.
  • Responsible for voicing and producing commercial spots in cooperation with the Production Director and sales department. Knowledge of Adobe Audition or Cool Edit.
  • Attends staff meetings and meets regularly with the Program Director for airchecks. Open to coaching.
  • Cross-training on other shifts in the event of scheduling emergencies.
  • Has a thorough working knowledge and understanding of WATD policy and FCC rules and regulations. Proper execution of EAS tests, Amber Alerts, and other emergency on-air notifications. Air commercials per program log.
  • Maintains confidentiality by not discussing internal WATD matters, company strategies, client’s proprietary information, personnel matters, wage and salary information or any other sensitive information with clients, competitors, listeners, the media or inappropriately with co-workers and by not distributing WATD’s proprietary research or other information to competitors.
  • Maintains assigned equipment.
  • Works in compliance with WATD policies and procedures.
  • Works effectively in a team environment and maintains a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients.
  • Position is 25 hours per week (1:00-6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday), but you may be required to work more hours for additional compensation including remote broadcasts, extra production work, weekends, holidays, etc.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Able to manage stress effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
